Michael Holgate is a creative empowerment specialist. with a solid body of work as a Director and Producer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literatures in English and a Master of Philosophy in Cultural Studies from the University of the West Indies, where he is Tutor Coordinator at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts. Holgate’s body of work is extensive and features multiple disciplines, including: theatre, dance, music, film and literature. His exploration into social Justice theatre has produced numerous productions. He was the director for the successful National Council on Reparations re-engineered telling of history with TRIAL OF GOVERNOR EYRE, written by Pan Africanist Lawyer Bert Sammuels and produced by Professor Verene Shepherd. Most recently, Holgate wrote and directed GARVEY The Musical- based on the life of civil rights leader Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Holgate is the Artistic Director of THE ASHE COMPANY- an internationally acclaimed Edutainment Theatre and social development organization.  He is author of the Caribbean fantasy/Sci-Fi novel NIGHT OF THE INDIGO (Macmillan) and co-author [with Conroy B. Wilson] of the self-help book YOUR EMPOWERMENT GPA. His forays in film include the featured role of ‘Bobo’ in the Jamaican Film ONE LOVE and he can also be seen in GHETT’A LIFE. Holgate is the founding director of the Jamaica Dance Umbrella festival and co-founder of Gungo Walk World-Alternative Music and Arts festival.
